Why We Recommend This Resort

We recommend Conrad Maldives for its exceptional marine experiences, beautiful two-island setting and relaxed luxury. Located in South Ari Atoll, one of the few places in the world where whale sharks can be encountered year-round, the resort offers guests the opportunity to swim alongside these remarkable gentle giants with the guidance of its marine team. The surrounding waters are also home to manta rays and an abundance of marine life.

Combined with spacious villas, excellent family facilities and the iconic Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, Conrad offers a particularly well-rounded Maldives experience for families and couples who value both the natural environment and understated luxury.

Our recommendations are based on first-hand resort knowledge, direct relationships and more than 23 years of Maldives expertise.

dining

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island offers an extensive collection of restaurants and bars across its two islands, providing considerable dining variety for longer stays.

Its most famous dining experience is Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, the world’s first underwater restaurant, located five metres beneath the surface of the Indian Ocean. Surrounded by a curved glass structure, guests dine with panoramic views of the surrounding reef and marine life.

Other dining experiences include Japanese cuisine at Koko, Chinese cuisine at Ufaa, seafood and grilled meats at Sunset Grill, international dining at Atoll Market and wellness-focused dining at Mandhoo.

The resort also has an underground Wine Cellar housing an extensive collection of wines, alongside more casual restaurants, bars and private dining experiences.

Activities

Marine experiences are one of the principal reasons Extraordinary Escapes recommends Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.

The resort is located in the South Ari Atoll, renowned for its year-round population of whale sharks. Rather than treating a whale shark sighting simply as an excursion, Conrad combines the experience with education. Its Whale Shark Talk & Tour begins with a presentation by marine experts before guests travel into the South Ari Atoll to search for and snorkel alongside whale sharks in their natural environment.

For guests wanting to become more directly involved in conservation, Conrad also offers a Whale Shark & Coral Conservation Expedition. The experience combines the search for whale sharks with the opportunity to participate in coral restoration alongside one of the resort’s marine biologists.

Conrad’s certified PADI Eco Center places marine education and conservation at the centre of its diving and snorkelling experiences. The resort has adopted its house reef through PADI’s Adopt the Blue program and participates in Green Fins, with responsible diving and snorkelling practices, environmental briefings and reef protection incorporated into its marine activities.

Guests can also participate in Conrad’s coral conservation program. Guided by the marine team, they learn about the importance of coral ecosystems before helping to establish coral fragments within the resort’s nursery. Guests who adopt coral can continue to receive updates on its progress as it grows before eventually being replanted onto the reef.

Other marine experiences include guided house reef snorkelling, diving, manta ray excursions and turtle safaris, allowing guests to learn about the wider marine ecosystem of the South Ari Atoll.

Families are also well catered for, with dedicated activities for younger children and teenagers, while the resort offers watersports, tennis, fitness, yoga, an open-air cinema and a variety of island experiences.

Spa

Wellness is offered across distinct spa environments at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, allowing guests to combine treatments and wellness experiences with the wider facilities of the resort.

The Spa Retreat is positioned over the lagoon and combines therapeutic treatments with a broader wellness approach, while the resort also offers overwater spa experiences surrounded by views of the Indian Ocean.

Yoga, fitness, meditation and personalised wellness experiences complement the spa treatments, allowing guests to incorporate wellness into their stay without it needing to define the entire holiday.
