Our Extraordinary day at Patina Maldives begins with the push of a button, as the electronic blinds gently rise to reveal the brilliant Maldivian day, the clean architectural lines of the villa framing the stunning view across the lagoon. It is a calm, considered start to the day, immediately setting the tone for a resort where design, art, and space are central to the experience.

We begin, as always, with our traditional Maldivian lagoon swim, stepping out into the stillness of the water as the day unfolds. Back in the villa, we take time to carefully select our outfits for the morning, Patina carries a naturally styled, contemporary feel, and the rhythm of the day reflects that. Before heading out, we pick up one of the resort’s complimentary sun hats and set off by bike through the beautifully manicured gardens toward breakfast.
Breakfast is served at Portico, set around the main pool in a relaxed, plantation-style setting, softened by natural textures, open space, and gently rotating ceiling fans overhead. A series of refined dining stations and chefs preparing dishes to order create an experience that feels curated, perfectly aligned with Patina’s design-led approach.

From here, we meet the marine biology team for a guided snorkel on Patina’s house reef. The reef itself is vibrant and full of life, but what truly sets this experience apart is what unfolds beyond it. Each time we have stayed at Patina, we have encountered multiple pods of spinner dolphins moving gracefully along the reef, often at different times throughout the day. It is one of those rare experiences that feels spontaneous, yet remarkably consistent.
Following the snorkel, we head to the Fari Islands Beach Club for lunch, one of the most dynamic and visually distinct settings in the Maldives. The food trucks here are a signature feature, introducing a more contemporary, lifestyle-driven element to dining. We make our way straight to the Go Go Burger truck before settling into the beach club for the afternoon.
The space itself is thoughtfully designed, a seamless blend of pool, beach, music, and movement. We spend the afternoon between our cabana and the water, with watersports unfolding around us and the Patina team delivering chilled fruit, ice creams, and refreshing touches throughout, all with an ease that blends service with friendship.
As the afternoon transitions, we return to the villa to change for the evening, another moment that reflects the more styled and curated nature of Patina. From here, we head out for a sunset sail aboard the resort’s luxury yacht. With a DJ setting the tone and champagne flowing, it is a beautifully orchestrated experience, where design, music, and atmosphere come together effortlessly.

Dinner this evening is at Patina’s signature restaurant, Koen, a fine dining chef’s table experience centred around Japanese-Peruvian fusion. In this intimate setting, exceptional chefs prepare each course directly in front of you, carefully explaining every element along the way. The experience feels immersive and considered, a beautifully executed interaction between chef, guest, and cuisine, and entirely in keeping with Patina’s curated approach to dining.
After dinner, we make our way to one of Patina’s striking art installations to experience the evening light display, an immersive and visually captivating moment that feels more like a curated gallery experience than a traditional resort offering.
