Waking at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi is a luxurious experience in itself. Staying in one of the resort’s expansive villas, we begin the day surrounded by thoughtful design and generous living spaces. The dressing area feels more akin to a luxury residence than a resort villa, with beautifully illuminated wardrobes, elegant finishes and ample space to prepare for the day ahead.

With sun hats packed into the basket of our white bicycles, we set off for breakfast, already knowing where we will spend much of our day. While every luxury resort in the Maldives has its own personality, what continually draws us back to Waldorf Astoria is the atmosphere that centres around Nava Beach Club.
In a destination often defined by privacy and tranquillity, Nava manages to create something different. It is the social heart of the island, alive with energy, music and activity, yet never losing the sophistication expected of one of the Maldives’ leading luxury resorts.
The area surrounding Nava is where much of the resort naturally comes together. Families gather around the family pool, couples relax by the adults-only pool, guests head out on paddleboards across the lagoon, and others make their way to the watersports centre to begin the day’s adventures. The kids club and teens facilities are nearby, creating a vibrant atmosphere that feels engaging rather than overwhelming.
Live music drifts through the air throughout the day, adding to the relaxed yet refined ambience that makes Waldorf Astoria feel so distinct within the Maldives. It is one of the few resorts where we find ourselves happily spending hours simply enjoying the atmosphere around us.

Of course, no day at Nava is complete without a visit to The Ledge. Overseen by renowned Australian chef Dave Pynt, The Ledge has become one of our favourite dining experiences in the Maldives. Whether enjoying a leisurely lunch overlooking the lagoon or returning later in the day, the atmosphere is always exceptional. The Wagyu beef sliders have become something of a tradition for us and remain one of those dishes we look forward to every time we return.
Long walks along the beach, time spent paddleboarding across the lagoon and watching the activity unfold around Nava create a wonderfully social and engaging day. Yet what makes Waldorf Astoria particularly special is the balance it achieves between energy and privacy.
By mid-afternoon, we often find ourselves returning to the tranquillity of our villa. Looking out across the endless shades of blue from our private pool, the pace slows once again. From here, we make our way directly into the lagoon for an afternoon snorkel, enjoying easy access to the resort’s house reef straight from our water villa.

As evening approaches, Waldorf Astoria truly begins to shine.
Dining here is unlike anywhere else in the Maldives. Rather than simply offering a collection of restaurants, the resort creates a culinary journey around the world. Every venue has its own identity, atmosphere and sense of place, allowing guests to experience an entirely different destination each evening.
At Zuma, Japanese cuisine is elevated into an experience, with beautifully prepared sushi, sashimi and signature dishes served in a sophisticated overwater setting. At Li Long, guests are transported to China, where the famous Peking duck is expertly prepared and carved tableside. Yasmeen offers an authentic Middle Eastern dining experience, while Glow focuses on fresh, wholesome cuisine inspired by wellness and sustainability.
Before dinner, we often find ourselves at Amber, the resort’s elegant overwater champagne and cocktail bar. Watching the sun begin to set across the Indian Ocean with a perfectly crafted cocktail in hand is one of those simple yet memorable moments that define a stay at Waldorf Astoria. As the evening unfolds, the resident DJ provides a backdrop of relaxed island-inspired music, creating a sophisticated atmosphere that encourages guests to linger a little longer. It is vibrant and social, yet never intrusive, perfectly capturing the refined energy that makes Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi so distinctive.
As the evening unfolds, guests drift between restaurants, each one offering a completely different culinary experience. It is entirely possible to spend a week at the resort and enjoy a different cuisine every night, a rarity even among the Maldives’ most celebrated luxury resorts.

What continually impresses us about Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi is its ability to combine two experiences that are often difficult to find together. It delivers the privacy, space and exclusivity that luxury Maldives travellers expect, while also creating a vibrant atmosphere where guests can connect, explore and enjoy the energy of the island.
For travellers who value exceptional dining, variety, atmosphere and sophisticated luxury, Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi remains one of the most distinctive and rewarding experiences in the Maldives.
