Maldives Resort Experience at COMO Maalifushi: Our Stay

We started our day at COMO Maalifushi by stepping directly from our stunning overwater villa with pool into the calm, glass-like lagoon, an effortless start to the day in one of the Maldives’ most remote and untouched southern atolls. COMO Maalifushi has a beautifully relaxed Maldivian feel, understated, calming, and effortlessly refined, which is exactly what draws us back time and time again. The island strikes a rare balance, large enough to explore by bicycle, yet intimate enough to feel like a true escape, with an atmosphere that feels considered and polished, yet still deeply connected to the natural surroundings.

The stunning Como Maalifushi Lagoon, where swimming is compulsive.

Breakfast is served by the beach, where we arrive by bike in summer sandals and flowing dresses, easing into the rhythm of the morning. There is a choice of à la carte or buffet, with gentle ocean breezes moving through the restaurant, creating a relaxed yet beautifully styled start to the day.

From here, we walk down the jetty to meet the marine biologist, heading out for a guided morning snorkel on the house reef. The reef sits just off the beach and offers wonderful snorkelling, and with the guidance of the marine team, the experience becomes far more immersive, with reef sharks, rays, and vibrant reef life encountered along the way.

After the snorkel, we set out for one of the most anticipated moments of the stay, a visit to COMO Maalifushi’s private deserted island, located just a one-minute boat ride away. Arriving here always feels special. The island is beautifully untouched, even home to resident bunnies, and today we have a private lunch set up waiting for us. We spend the afternoon here, enjoying a completely secluded experience, swimming, snorkelling the surrounding waters, and settling into the rare feeling of having our own island, with every detail quietly taken care of.

As the day softens, we return to the resort and make our way to the overwater bar for sunset cocktails with Ana, a wonderful friend of ours whom we have known for many years. We first worked with Ana during her time as Director of Sales at Patina Maldives, and were thrilled when she joined COMO Maalifushi. Catching up with her here is always a highlight, both professionally and personally, a moment to reconnect and share stories as the sun sets across the horizon.

Dinner this evening is at Tai, the resort’s overwater Japanese restaurant, where the setting is as exceptional as the cuisine. Positioned out over the lagoon, it offers the perfect transition from sunset into evening, with a refined yet relaxed atmosphere that defines COMO Maalifushi.

COMO Maalifushi is a resort for those seeking a refined yet authentic Maldivian escape, where space, simplicity, and beautifully curated experiences come together effortlessly. It is a place you arrive at and immediately know you will have a wonderful stay.
